90's game character designs are my favorite for the forced simplicity. So much reliance on headbands and varying giant shoulder pads, and yet I find even back-tier characters like AVALANCHE super recognizable!

Pauldrons if they cover the whole shoulder and armpit, spaulders if they do not cover the armpit!
Seriously, thank you! I regularly draw enough armor and really should know better.
